# Adding a Manual Bank Account

A manual bank account lets you upload PDF or CSV bank statements directly into Ezyiah. Use this when a live bank feed isn't yet connected, when you have historical statements to process, or when a client prefers not to connect their bank directly.

## Creating the account and uploading a statement

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Banks tab">
    Select the client from the sidebar, click **Banks**, then click **Add Manual Bank Account**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the account">
    In the Add Bank dialog, enter the bank name, for example "NAB Bank" or "Commonwealth Business Account". Set the **Account Type** to **Bank** or **Credit Card**, then click **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload your statement">
    The account opens straight into the upload dialog. Drag and drop your bank statement into the upload area, or click **Browse** to select it from your computer. Ezyiah accepts PDF and CSV statements from Australian banks, up to 10 files at a time.

    <Warning>
      PDFs shouldn't be scanned images. Ezyiah reads the text in the file directly, so a scanned or photographed statement won't process reliably.
    </Warning>

    <Tip>
      If a CSV isn't reading correctly, download the Ezyiah Template from the upload dialog and match your statement's columns to it for guaranteed results.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the upload">
    Once your file shows a **Ready** status, click **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Reconciliation and categorisation

Once you save, Ezyiah reads every transaction from the file, applies GST treatment, and starts reconciling immediately.

You can watch progress in the Ezyiah Assistant panel, which lists each stage as it happens: uploading, saving the transactions, reconciling, and completion, along with how many transactions were processed. A success notification also confirms this in the bottom right corner.

Once reconciliation completes, the transactions are sorted into [Chart of Accounts](/chart-of-accounts/reviewing-your-chart-of-accounts), split into Income, Expense, and Other Expense (where GST doesn't apply for BAS), ready for your team to review.
